A modern double-story extension and internal remodelling to a traditional detached property.
Adding 40m2 of floor space on each level has given this family a stunning 4-bedroom home in a desirable location in Colchester.
The architect’s had produced a great initial design for the space then we worked closely with the client to develop the material choices in the pre-construction phase to enhance the finished look.
The ground floor façade was constructed in a handmade orange brick from the classic brick company. We used a white/lime mortar mix for the brick joints which sat nicely against the 6-metre wide by 2.3m high ultra slim profiled aluminium doors by ID systems UK. The doors and Upvc windows were both finished in RAL 7016 anthracite grey. The top level of the extension façade was completed in a silicone render which offered a sleek finish against the brick and Sandtoft humber plain tiles.
A seamless transition from the internal Karndean herringbone floor space to the porcelain tiled external patio was created by raising the patio height to meet the internal floor level at the door threshold.
Internally you can see how the ultra slim framing on the glass doors are allowing maximum light and amazing views of the garden with or without the doors open. Ideal for summer and winter! The dual colour J-groove handle kitchen by Jigsaw has been complimented with a quartz worktop by CK stone which travels up the hob splashback to the extractor hood. The lime washed oak herringbone floor by karndean is used throughout the ground floor, fully warmed by the retro fitted under floor heating system.
The clients have taken on the task of the final painting throughout the house, so we’ll be sharing more images and content soon. The house now boasts an additional utility room, WC, en-suite, 2 bedrooms, new staircase and an open plan kitchen/dining space to share with friends and family.
