Hickory Cottage East Bergholt

Architect – client

Structural Engineer – superstructures
Constructed in the desirable village of East Bergholt, a full house remodel with a large two-story warp around extension and new garage was required for a growing family. The client had been dreaming up this project for many years, they were very hands on with the design and product selection from day one.

The property was vacated for 6 months to enable our site team to work efficiently in connecting new to the old. The existing part of the cottage needed a makeover, we carried out a full re-wire complete with network points, speakers, and a smart home system. In addition, we added a new heating system integrated to the smart home software and completely upgraded the external building fabric with membrane, insulation, and a silicone render finish. The new timber and steel framed extension was 65m2 per floor which added much needed space and openness to the home.

A new part-oak staircase was added to the Spanish style tiled entrance hallway. With under floor heating added to the new kitchen/dining space which saw a lovely kitchen designed & installed by local kitchen company Heart of Home.

One of the nicest features on this project were the sage green aluminium clad timber windows which the clients thoughtfully chose. The front elevation was designed to resemble box sash windows which is more in keeping with the local area, then the rear elevation was clear and sleeker with a mix of sliding and Crittall style doors to add a different feel and enhance the garden views.

The outcome of the project was a delightful 4 bedroom home complete with 4 bathrooms, a home office, boot room, lounge, snug area, kitchen, dining area, large garage, and new front driveway.
